Santa María del Mar is one of the most important Gothic churches in Barcelona, and probably also in Europe. It was built between 1329 and 1384, and symbolised the political and economic strength of Catalonia during this epoch. It is the only important Catalan Gothic church that has a perfectly finished interior, with typical Catalan Gothic characteristics.
