Barcelona is widely known for its electronic scene, and for the past 20 years, Nitsa club has been at the forefront of bringing some of the biggest names in techno and electronic music to Barcelona. Based at the Sala Apolo, Nitsa always guarantee an entertaining night, as the theatre-like venue enhances the experience inside. We caught up with DJ Fra, resident and programmer of the main room.
First of all, for anyone who hasn’t been to Nitsa before, what should they expect?
It’s an open minded electronic music club in a beautiful venue. Pretty much everybody that matters in the electronic world has performed at our club over the past 20 years, from Aphex Twin to Mr.Fingers and Dixon to Dj Shadow.
Would you say Sala Apolo is a great venue too?
Definitely! It’s one of the most beautiful and legendary venues in town. It has a unique feel.
How long have you been the programmer and resident DJ for Nitsa?
I started programming and as one of the residents in September 1996.
Does any event or DJ stand out during this time?
So many… I’ll never forget the first time Richard D. James DJed at Nitsa in 1998. Also some of the DJs that have been regularly playing Nitsa over the years like Michael Mayer, Andrew Weatherall, James Murphy and so many more.
The lineup for Nitsa in June includes Joy Orbison, Scuba, Scharrie and more… who are you especially looking forward to?
The whole Versus event during the Sónar weekend is going to be great! The line-up each day is fantastic.
