Barcelona prides itself on its reputation as a gastronomic centre, so sampling some of their tapas dishes is a must for your stay in the Catalan capital. What’s more, why not make your tapas experience that extra bit special by participating in Barcelona’s first ever hotel tapa tour.
This fantastic event will be taking place between the 6th to 17th April, so if you happen to be in Barcelona between these dates it’s well worth checking out. Thirty 4 and 5* hotels, all situated in the Eixample, Ciutat Vella, Sant Martí, Les Corts and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi districts, will be taking part with the aim of promoting hotel gastronomy. It provides the opportunity for locals and tourists to enjoy delicious tapas whilst allowing neighbouring hotels to build a relationship with their competitors.
Each hotel will open their restaurant to the public by offering two different tapas dishes- one which shall be judged by both professionals and members of the public. The price of the tapas plus a drink (either cava, wine or a cocktail) will be between €4 and €8.
The professional judges, all big names in the restaurant industry, will be awarding prizes for the best traditional tapas, the best avant-garde tapas and finally the best sustainable tapas. The public’s job on the other hand is a little less demanding. They are required to vote on their favourite tapas in order to determine the most popular tapas dish at the end of the competition. Voting will take place at each one of the hotels on route, where there will be ballot boxes for you to submit your vote. All voters are invited to participate in the draw for the chance to win from the fantastic selection of prizes on offer, all of which have been donated by the participating hotels.
Those who would like to get involved can find all the relevant information here, including a map of the hotel route, details of the hotels, timings and tapas.
