On Sant Jordi´s day, Barcelona  fills with romance as books and roses are exchanged between guys and girls. The tradition comes from the legend in which a small town south of Barcelona chose to sacrifice the King´s daughter to keep a dragon away from their village. Before the dragon could get to the princess, Sant Jordi saves the princess from death and slays the dragon. A drop of blood from the dragon fell to the floor and created a rose bush where Sant Jordi picked a rose to give to the princess.

Today, the streets of the city fill with stands selling roses and books. Some of the more visited areas of the city during this day are La Rambla, Rambla Catalunya and Plaça Sant Juame.
