The night of Sant Joan is celebrated throughout Catalunya with a lot of fun and a lot of noise. Its indisputably pagan origins go back to the celebrations of the summer solstice. Sant Joan is always on the 23rd June, although the shortest day is now the 21st June.

The most popular place to enjoy the party is on the beach, and it’s the one night of the year when the chiringuito beach bars can stay open until dawn. All the coastline gets packed as friends gather to while the night away drinking cava and eating coca cake against a backdrop of incessant bangs.
