19 January, 2016 - 8 May, 2016
Event Navigation
For the next 5 months, the Fundació Joan Miró will present ‘Casa Bloc’ a photographic series by Irena Visa. Visa is a visual artist and sculptor who lives and works in Barcelona.
Her photographs explore the relationship between space, memory and identity. This is achieved by portraying the last tenants and how they inhabited their apartments. Casa Bloc was initially designed by GATCPAC architects in the thirties and the project was developed to provide social rental housing in order to meet the growing demand from workers in the factories at Sant Andreu. However, with the outcome of the Civil War, and the start of Franco’s regime, most of the apartments were allocated to military families instead. Visa believes that each family that lived in the apartment block has left a unique and fascinating trace of their past life that can be artistically captured via the means of photography.
Casa Bloc will feature in the space set aside for photography exhibitions in the lobby of the Fundació Joan Miró.
