The Minifestival’s origins date back to the early nineties, when the creator of the fanzine Miracles For Sale took the logical step of organizing a concert with some of the groups that featured on their pages. Collaboration with a review of the film “Blue” by Krzysztof Kieslowski brought together the Minifestival future organizers, who along the way also edited another fanzine, Brand Acme. Over the years they have been immersed in various projects within the cultural activity of Barcelona, with more enthusiasm than resources.

The term “independent” fits them perfectly: historical fanzine encounters at the Record Collectors’ Fairs, days dedicated to short films, the Super 8, photography and art exhibitions, debates and workshops for noble musicians. Meanwhile, the Minifestival line-up has been growing year after year, making its way into the ever crowded Barcelona agenda and gaining a small but loyal following. There are more artists and more foreign bands on the line-up, but without forgetting the local talent and new bands that find their place at the launch party or the mini-concerts at Fnac Illa Diagonal.

The line-up of this edition is as interesting and varied as usual. Seven bands at the amazing price of 10€ early entry or 13€ at the box office; a treat that you can not miss. You can buy tickets and obtain information about participating groups through the Minifestival website. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of them, the Minifestival is renowned for always introducing a few gems. Barcelona Connect recommends that you go down and see it for yourself!

THE LEGENDARY FAMILY STINSON are being called the next “next big thing” of American roots music sung in Spanish. In a few years you’ll be able to say, “I saw them performing at the Mini”. THE DOUBLE SHAME is the group who have played most often at the Minifestival, under this name or their parallel bands. At this 20th edition of Minifestival they celebrate the release of “SoundClubStudio 2014”, their first professional recording. LINDA GUILALA from Vigo will leave us drenched by their storm of guitars, pop melodies and explosive choruses. More than a few of you will be glad to discover THE MANHATTAN LOVE SUICIDES, back again to let rip with the strident noise and chaos that characterizes them on stage. The MICHAEL CLOUP DUO brings the leader of the best French band of recent years: Diabologum and Experience.

THE SCHOOL from Cardiff fill the stage of Les Basses with their eight musicians, mixing girl-group sounds of the sixties with contemporary folk-pop. Delicious! And to wrap it all up we have THE CLOSE LOBSTERS, the legendary band of “C-86” who leave Leeds a few times a year to play. This time we’ll be the lucky ones to see them in action.
