This year celebrates the 4th edition of DOCfield, Barcelona’s documentary photography festival, under the heading ‘Europe: Lost in Translation’, taking place between 19th May and 19th June, 2016. Organised by the Photographic Social Vision foundation, with the artistic management of Natasha Christia, DOCfield>16 aims to question the identity of European values, filling the city with the very best of today’s documentary photographs and photojournalism.
All the photographic themes are geared towards current-day Europe, questioning ideologic identity and the value of the ancient continent. The festival includes unedited themes and emerging artists, exploring hybrid genres and new documental languages.
The programme of DOCfield>16 launches 30 free exhibitions of documentary photographs and photojournalism, equally national and international, with works from over 100 different artists on display throughout the city. Venues range from art centres, galleries and civic centres to photography schools and other cultural spaces.
NITS DOCfield offers 4 free sessions of nocturnal projections in the open air. The festival also boasts a considerable educational programme with several workshops, guided visits and conferences, as well as the 3rd edition of the DOCfield prize, “Dummy Award Foundation Banco Sabadell”, for contenders in the professional photography sector.
