To celebrate and encourage its ‘rockstar bartenders’, the Hard Rock Café has created the BARocker 2016 competition to give it’s bartenders the chance to exhibit their impressive skills in a battle to be crowned ‘Hard Rock’s Global BARockers Champion’. First are the local competitions, then regional, followed by the world final.
Thursday night saw the final of Barcelona’s BARocker 2016 take place at the Hard Rock Café in Plaça Catalunya. The winner was Mauro who will now go on to compete in Vienna for the European competition and if successful, he will go on to Panama for the world final.
The judges, who are all experienced professionals in the cocktail and bartending industry, evaluated each competitor’s knowledge of cocktail recipes, working a bar, their precision, speed (as there was a time limit), style and showmanship.
Each bartender chose two signature cocktails to make and a third chosen by the judges. Whilst creating the cocktails each competitor performed a series of tricks to a personally chosen soundtrack. Mauro made a Runner, Margarita and a Hurricane. The event was really exciting and fun to watch. There was a great atmosphere around the bar which was bursting full, with all spectators cheering and encouraging the competitors.
The winner of the world final will win a 3D Global BARocker, a Fender guitar, a trophy, merchandise and a trip for two to one of the Hard Rock’s resorts. Most excitingly, the champion will have their winning cocktail put onto the Hard Rock drinks menu!
