The Barcelona Beer Challenge (BBC), inspired by various international beer competitions, aims to publicise the quality of different types of beers throughout the country by presenting them with awards used to distinguish them, making their high quality standards instantly recognisable.
The Barcelona Beer Challenge is part of the celebrated Barcelona Beer Festival (4th-6th March), the leading event of its kind in the country, and one of the most significant throughout Europe, attracting more than 30,000 visitors on one weekend as national and international breweries unite.
The jury, composed of highly qualified and trained experts, aims to identify and advertise these beers, giving them the national and international recognition that they deserve among consumers.
The first edition of the BBC is open to all breweries willing to participate judged by a panel, all accredited holders of the Beer Judge Certification Program.The evaluation and tasting of beer are made up of various elements, the most important being the beer’s appearance, as well as its aroma and flavours and nuances on the palate.
Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in each category of the contest, based on individual scores. The prize consists of a Diploma accrediting the award, a medal and a digital seal of the award to include on labels, promotional packaging and websites. The prize for the best brewery is given to the brewery that obtains the best overall score for their beers, with the notification of awards taking place on the 6th March during the Barcelona Beer Festival.
