On Sant Jordi´s day, Barcelona fills with romance as books and roses are exchanged between guys and girls. The tradition comes from the legend of Sant Jordi, the same legend that is known worldwide under the name of Saint George. The Saint is a hero, saving the beautiful princess in distress from her un-timely death at the hands of the gruesome and wicked dragon who had been terrorising the entire village. The legend is known to all, but wherever you go the facts always remain the same. Sant Jordi is the Patron Saint of Catalonia, and his tale is known throughout.
On this day, the streets of the city fill with stands selling roses and books. Some of the more visited areas of the city during this day are La Rambla, Rambla Catalunya and Plaça Sant Jaume, where you can attend traditional Catalan folk dancing, known as ‘Sadana’, from 15h ’till 20h.
