The Quiet Man Irish Cultural Centre is celebrating its 20 year anniversary this Saturday November 29th. Years of laughs, Guinness, hard work, music, tradition, and memories have constructed the Quiet Man into what it is today. Originally founded by Seamus Farrell, a native of Laois county and professor of English at Barcelona University, the centre was developed as a meeting place for both Irish residents and visitors to the city. Thanks to Seamus’ foresight the centre immediately became a flagship for Irish cultural events, very much welcomed by the Barcelona natives.
Seamus loved boats, in particular the Irish curach and played an active part in developing a race for these boats in Barcelona Harbour. He engaged the Irish Pub Company to develop and fit out the premises and they created what is one the finest examples of an authentic Irish pub type interior in Spain to this day. Today, besides having the coldest Guinness you can find in Barcelona, the Quiet Man is an intimate bar, with live music and friendly faces, where people of all shapes and sizes can partake in the lively craic of one of the oldest standing pubs in the city.
