If you are interested in seafaring, you definitely can’t miss the exhibition Snipe which takes place in the Museu Marítim de Barcelona.
First, let’s explain what is a snipe and let’s talk quickly about its history. this construction is a kind of sailboat, lighter and easier to transport. The first one was designed in 1931 by William Crosby. It was a successful model, and a lot of races took place which led to the foundation of the SCIRA (Snipe Class International Racing Association) one year later.
The exhibition has informative panels which explain the history of this sailboat. They are in Spanish, Catalan and English. You will also be able to take a close look at the Snipe “El Toñete”, the first sailboat of this type in the museum which arrived there in 1975. This boat was built by Dr. A. Ruiz Martínez using the original construction plans by William Crosby himself that were published in the US magazine The Rudder.
You will also be able to have a look at the cup of the Spanish Championship of Snipe along with the list of the trophy’s winners.
The exhibition finishes on the 25th of September 2017.
